Back to school brings a new technology outlook for the grand prize winners in the Win a Wireless Lab 2012 Sweepstakes: Chevy Chase Elementary School (Chevy Chase, Md.), Ella Elementary School (Olivehurst, Calif.) and N.B. Clements Junior High School (Prince George, Va.). Win a Wireless Lab 2012, sponsored by CDW-G and Discovery Education, awarded nearly $200,000 in classroom technologies to schools nationwide. Each school will receive a Discovery Education $5,000 digital media grant, 20 notebook or tablet computers from HP, Lenovo or Toshiba, Cisco wireless access points, an Ergotron mobile cart, a PolyVision interactive whiteboard, Quizdom student response devices, Aver document camera, HP multifunction printer, and on-site training for students and teachers from the sponsors. While using tablets is exciting for students, teachers also see the long-term benefits of this prize. “The new wireless lab will enable us to work with students on project-based assignments, encouraging better engagement and motivation and sharpening their critical and creative thinking,” says Renee Hammond, chorus/general music teacher, Chevy Chase Elementary School. “We want to empower and the technology will link our students to interactive sites, worldwide experts, audio clips and images – powerful resources that deepen students’ understanding of the world around them.” This year, CDW-G and Discovery Education received more than 726,000 entries from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and all winners were selected at random. That’s a lot of entries!
